چکیده

An excess Gibbs free energy model is applied to in®estigate the influence of n-paraffin composition on the aging beha®ior of wax-oil gel deposits known to form in subsea petroleum transport pipelines. The aging of wax-oil gels occurs by a counterdiffusion process where wax molecules with carbon numbers greater than a critical carbon num( ) ber CCN diffuse into the gel matrix, and ®ice ®ersa. Model crude oils were formulated to exhibit ®arying decreasing exponential distributions of n-paraffin components in the range n-C to n-C . Deposition experiments were conducted using a laboratory cold 9 53 finger apparatus simulating the cold wall of a subsea pipeline. Gas chromatography analysis of gel deposit compositions yielded experimental CCN ®alues. A solid-liquidphase equilibrium model, employing a modified ®ersion of UNIQUAC to compute solid-phase component acti®ity coefficients, was able to successfully predict the critical carbon number for a ®ariety of model oil n-paraffin compositions.

Compositional Modeling of Wax Formation in Petroleum Mixtures

Heavy organics deposition is a common problem in oil industry, especially in oil production, transportation and processing. Wax or solid paraffin series are examples of heavy organics that deposit. Precipitation and crystallization of wax causes major difficulties in different processes. Based on multi-solid theory, a basic model is modified in this paper for wax precipitation in different oils...

Formation and Aging of Incipient Thin Film Wax-Oil Gels

A fundamental study of the deposition and aging of a thin incipient wax-oil gel that is formed during the flow of waxy oils in cooled pipes was performed. The solubility of high molecular weight paraffins in naphthenic, aromatic or paraffinic sol®ents is ®ery low and decreases rapidly with decreasing temperature. This property of the paraffins leads to the formation of gels of complex morpholog...

Modeling and Forecasting of Paraffin Settings on an Existing Extractive Fund of Oil Deposits

In the oil industry, the issue of controlling paraffin deposits remains relevant today. The most common way in the Perm Krai to remove paraffin is to lower the scrapers into the well.  This method is the main in the fight against paraffin deposits, but does not provide absolute protection. The least costly way to control paraffin is to use flushing with hot oil or water, but it does not always ...

Existence of a Critical Carbon Number in the Aging of a Wax-Oil Gel

( ) A fundamental study was carried out to understand the aging or hardening of the wax-oil gels formed in the subsea pipelines during the flow of crude oil from offshore wells to shore. The aging process is a counterdiffusion phenomenon where there exists a ( ) critical carbon number CCN , and wax molecules with carbon numbers greater than the CCN diffuse into the gel matrices and ®ice ®ersa. ...
